What’s unique about the story of Helldivers 2 is that it’s driven by the player community. Planning for that is a huge challenge – we have what we think will happen, but we ultimately can’t control what the players do. Which as a player I find cool, but as a writer I find really scary.

The map itself is significantly larger too, meaning there’s more space for you and your squad to explore, but in turn, you also need to be covering all basis faster.

Arrowhead CEO Johan Pilestedt addressed this on social media recently, noting that the studio would "never add a PvP mode" as it hopes "to reduce toxic elements from the community.

The game has what is called a "Premium Warbond," which works just like regular Warbonds (see the above section for details on those). That means you'll be using the medals you earn from orders and missions to unlock the items on it, but to access the Premium Warbond in the first place, you'll need to buy it for 1,000 Super Credits.

After your Helldiver defrosts on your ship, you and your squadmates must prepare for a mission by customizing your armor, your weapons, and your stratagems together. 

Fun game, but the crashes, disconnects, and server issues every 30 min make it hard to have a fun time. Finding a group to play with is a pain and always says the group is full. Fix a few issues and this game will be top notch

Also, the game being in live-service means that you get rewards playing more as well as different missions to strive for and do. This was the missing piece in the first game, and I think they pulled it off quite well.

There are some genuine frame-rate drops in the mix, with the game dropping to the high 20s, although these aren't very common. The PC version has a serviceable options menu with a typical range of selectables, including texture quality, shadow quality, volumetrics quality, and options for screen-space reflections and screen-space global illuminations. Sticking to the standard quality presets, low settings dramatically alters the terrain and decimates shadows and should really be avoided if at all possible. Medium makes the terrain match the collison, greatly improves shadow res, and adds TAA, ambient occlusion, and additional foliage. The high preset adds in more foliage and improves shadows, and the ultra preset looks very similar to high but with Em excesso shadow detail. Performance-wise, there's a huge FPS boost by sliding down to the low preset, though the Helldivers 2 Gameplay other presets are pretty similar in performance based on testing using an RTX 4090.

We also learn a little bit about how important it is to strategize with your comrades to avoid lacking essential amour or equipment for certain enemies which you’ll inevitably need to face.  

Helldivers 2 seems like it'd be a ton of fun to play with someone via local "couch" split-screen co-op, which is why it's such a bummer that the game doesn't support this feature on PC or PS5.

Helldivers 2 is a mighty fun time especially with friends, family, and anyone you might want to “accidentally” flatten with a supply package.

On a high-end system using a Ryzen 7 7800X3D with RTX 4090, we're typically looking at frame-rates in the 90s with settings fully maxed out at 4K resolution. That's solid performance, but you'd probably want to engage some amount of resolution scaling if playing on a high refresh rate display. Normally,toggling on DLSS would be a no-brainer, but of course temporal upscalers aren't supported in this game at the moment. On a more mid-range PC (we looked at a Ryzen 5 3600 with RTX 2070 Super), we get decent enough performance, as long as we're willing to take a settings hit and move down to 1080p resolution on medium settings. Here, we're typically just above 60fps, and while this isn't enough to achieve super high frame-rates at a decent resolution, it's certainly capable of providing a good experience. Stuttering in-game isn't an option, but this seems to happen when launching into a match, but from there on out, gameplay is refreshingly smooth.
